Compare Benchmarking Model
The Compare Toolkit elements share a similar model:
- Event - The model begins with an event that occurs at a subscribing hospital (i.e. avoidable delay, denial, or readmission)
- Assessment - Case Manager(s), occupying a unique position in the system of healthcare delivery, watch for these events. When they occur, case managers assess the root cause
- Tracking - Case Manager(s) categorize the root cause of event using standardized "dictionary" of common causes, and record this information in their case management system, Compare Online, or other system
- Submission - Each subscribing hospital submits tracking data to ACMA monthly
- Aggregation - ACMA aggregates data from all subscribing hospitals into a central, secure database
- Benchmarking - ACMA produces benchmarking reports for each subscribed hospital, which compares their performance against a national group of similar hospitals. Reports are released to subscribed hospitals quarterly.
- Performance Improvement - Hospitals use benchmarking to assess tracking and performance opportunities, and to inform and support performance improvement efforts
- Best Practice - ACMA identifies the common challenges that create inefficiencies for most hospitals, and those subscribers who are the best performers in those areas. These effective practices are shared through periodic subscriber educational events
